Recent GSP Events

On Feb 6th, 2026, we hosted a concert in collaboration with the CalPoly-based band Set in Stone. The event was a success, helping us to gain donations to fuel our work for the next quarter, all while enjoying one of San Luis Obispo's spectacular sunsets and listening to great live music. We hope that this is only one of the first GSP-hosted community events, and we can not wait for all of the fun group opportunities to come.

We also recently hosted a cleanup at the "P," a beloved outdoor hike for many CalPoly students. At this cleanup, we were able to pick up 164lbs of trash, including a 70lb couch.

Recent Global Events

Good News:

Global investment in nature-based solutions for water security—ranging from wetland restoration to forest management and green infrastructure—has doubled since 2013. By reducing flood and drought risks and delivering co-benefits for biodiversity and carbon storage, these approaches offer a climate-resilient, cost-effective alternative to traditional grey infrastructure.

The North Atlantic right whale population has climbed to 384 animals—up eight from last year—continuing a slow but steady recovery after years of decline. Once hunted to the brink of extinction, the whales are now rebounding thanks to conservation measures such as strengthened Canadian protections, beach patrols, and redesigned fishing gear.

News to Motivate Change:

2025 ranked as the third warmest year on record, reinforcing a long-term pattern of unusually high global temperatures that has increased both the frequency and severity of extreme weather events worldwide.
